Winona State University’s Colleges Against Cancer club will host the seventh annual Relay for Life from 5 p.m.-5 a.m. April 24-25. Relay for Life will be held in WSU’s courtyard. In the case of rain, the event will be held in McCown gymnasium.
Relay for Life is an all-night event that celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer, remembers those who have lost their lives and fights back against the disease. Teams campout and take turns running or walking around a track or path. Teams participate in dress-up lap themes, fundraise at their campsites and take part in games and activities.
The event starts with a survivors lap, a time when survivors of the disease are invited to circle the track to celebrate victories achieved over cancer. After dark, people who have lost loved ones to the disease will be honored during the luminary ceremony. The event concludes with the fight-back ceremony where participants make a personal commitment to save lives by committing to the fight against cancer.
